Embark on your own hunt through the grounds of NewTown Truffiere with one of our exclusive Guided Hunts; learn more about how you can start your own truffle growing journey with a Grower Event; or refine truffle hunting foundations for your scent trained canine companion. Our farm offers many unique opportunities to experience the wonderful world of truffles. These are seasonal offerings, available November-March.
Experiences:
Guided Hunts: Join us for a guided hunt led by an experienced guide and one of our beloved truffle dogs, Luca or Lorelei Lee. We’ll hunt for native Tuber cumberlandense, the Kentucky Winter White Truffle, and Tuber melanosporum, the famous European Winter Black Truffle.
What to Expect: Hunts begin with a brief truffle talk highlighting the symbiotic relationship between truffles and their host trees, the science behind their cultivation, and the techniques used to sustainably harvest them without disturbing the balance of their delicate ecosystem. Afterwards, follow a highly trained dog into the orchard as they skillfully sniff out the truffles. Experience the thrill of discovery in real-time as you dig up these underground culinary treasures. Conclude your hunt with a tasting session, where you can experience a few truffle snacks. There will also be time during and after the tasting for a Q&A where you can have your questions answered by our knowledgeable staff and gain deeper insights into the world of high-end gastronomy and agriculture.
Group size 8. $135 per person. ~2hrs 30mins Available Dates*: Dec 20th (2025), Jan 3rd, Jan 31st, Feb 21st (2026). *Additional dates may be accommodated with sufficient group sizes.
Grower Events: If you’re considering growing truffles or if you are just getting started, we can help. The Grower Events provide information and insights to new growers looking to start their own truffle orchard. Led by experienced truffle farmer and founder of NewTown Truffiere, Margaret Townsend, these events help you take the next steps in your own truffle growing journey.
What to Expect: Grower Events begin with an in-depth truffle growing talk covering the fundamentals—truffle species, orchard setup, soil and pH considerations, inoculated seedlings, irrigation, maintenance schedules, and early signs of success. We focus on the science and agriculture behind successful truffle cultivation, with practical guidance tailored to new and aspiring growers. Next, you'll take an orchard tour followed by a truffle hunt with one of our highly trained truffle dogs. This hands-on portion allows you to observe real orchard conditions, root-zone considerations, and how trained dogs locate ripe truffles. After the hunt, we gather for a tasting of truffle bites while discussing preparation techniques, ideal pairings, handling practices, and market insights. The event concludes with an extended Q&A session, ensuring you leave with answers to your specific questions and a deeper understanding of the tools, timelines, and expectations involved in establishing a productive truffle orchard.
Group size 12. $225 per person. ~4 hours. Available Dates: Feb 7th (2026)
Truffle Dog Events: In partnership with a certified trainer, this day is designed for handlers and their dogs who have already completed truffle scent-training and are ready to transition from controlled practice exercises to the real-world challenge of searching for truffles in a working orchard. This program also provides owners with the knowledge and handling skills needed to turn training into successful — and marketable — foraging.
What to Expect: Events begin with a brief Truffle Dog Talk introducing truffles, native species, orchard versus wild foraging conditions, and how harvested truffles are cleaned and prepared for sale. Afterward, dogs and handlers move into guided fieldwork. Under the supervision of a certified trainer, dogs progress from structured scent exercises to locating truffles in an active orchard environment. Owners will learn how to read their dog’s alerts, maintain accuracy, reinforce good behavior, and adapt training techniques to real-world conditions. This experience provides a critical next step for dogs preparing to become reliable orchard hunters and/or native foragers and gives owners the skills needed to support that transition.
Group size 6-8. Price TBD per dog and handler pair. ~6-8 hours Available Dates: Jan 17th (2026)
